A poem by me "The Mortal Rule" Written on 17th February 2020
A poem dedicated to my late dance guru and my late grandmother.
The Mortal Rule
My loved one rests in deep slumber,
My heart grieves with great anger.
I want to interrogate her soul,
Can you hear my voice from your new abode?
Even if you can, I can't hear you.
Why is it always the mortal rule?
"If you're born into this world, someday you'll die off."
True, that we all know the rule.
Still the overwhelming urge to interrogate her soul comes to me.
Why'd you leave us all?
Why'd you abandon all the happy memories?
Why'd you come into our lives if you had to leave?
But I know that there will be one day,
People will interrogate my soul,
They will ask me similar questions,
Visualizing the situation, I know my hands will be tied like the billion souls resting here,
No matter what my fate holds, I know I'll have to leave this mortal world.
There will be no turning back and I'll have to comply to the mortal rule.
I would then like to say one thing,
"Let go of my soul but forever cherish the memories of us together, for I was once there and I'm there no more, I'll be remembered for the person who I was once before. I hope that you find love once again and lead a healthy life. I agree that I'm a sinner for leaving you behind. I hope you forgive me but I have no other choice."
I'll have to knock on the door of Hades and Persephone.
They'll welcome my soul and my spirit will be engulfed by the flames of 'The Dead'.
Are you experiencing this whole trauma?
All I know is one thing that I'm craving to meet you one last time, hug you one last time, say goodbye for the last time.
No matter how much I crave I know I can't do it for you have entered the realm of the dead and there's no escape tab.
I wish I could see your face in the flames burning in Hades' and Persephone's fireplace.
I wish you a merry after life.
I can't wait to see you in the next life.
I can't wait to create new memories which I'll hold on tight to the next time you leave.
Maybe one day before our next lives, I'll meet you in the same fireplace to keep your flame accompanied.
That day, I will search for you in the realm of the dead and I'll ask for acquaintance.
You'll ask me how I got there.
And I'll answer in a slightly exaggerated tone, "The Mortal Rule which brings us all here."
